It is autumn here now and it is getting a bit chilly (night frost is expected tonight)

So it's a bit strange searching the shops for sun cream... but I will need it soon!

Jo, jag har verkligen misskött min blogg!! Fy på mig! Men för att göra saker liite bättre så har jag bestämt mig för att fixa ett party! Ett alldeles speciellt party. Veckans Bokfemma är att ordna en fest för fem favoritkaraktärer. Vad kul det ska bli! Som alltid så har jag valt de första fem namn som dök upp:

Mma Ramotswe. Henne vill jag möta, prata med, utbyta recept med och lyssna på hennes historier från Botswana och från hennes detektivbyrå.

Kommissarie Brunetti. Hans kärlek till god mat och dryck gör honom till en gäst jag gärna ser på min fest. Kanske kan han t o m få mig att vilja besöka Venedig och Italien på riktigt.

Harry Potter. Jag vill veta mer. Mycket mer.

John Rebus. Jag älskar den skotska dialekten, den allra vackraste av dialekter (förutom skånska). Behöver jag mer anledning än så? :)

Som alltid så dyker det inte upp fem namn i mitt huvud utan sex eller sju. Det var extra svårt att välja den här gången. Men till slut bestämde jag mig för att bjuda in Pippi. Vilken fest det kommer att bli då!

Det blir definitivt ett knytkalas - tänk vad kul det kunde bli.

Living life too fast

Just nu har jag alldeles för mycket att göra på jobb. Sen letar jag nytt boende - gärna ett litet hus. Och så har resfebern kommit inför resan i december. Så därför hinner jag inte fotografera. Och därför blir det inget skrivet i bloggen. Men läser gör jag ändå - på tunnelbanan till jobb på morgonen och hemma sent på kvällen för att varva ner. Funderar ibland på att skriva ner funderingar om böckerna jag läser, men det har inte kommit längre än till funderingar. Under min resa kommer jag att skriva resedagbok - men inte här i bloggen. I have far too much to do at work right now. Am looking for a new place to live - would like a little house. And the holiday nerves have started to appear. So there's no time to take photos. And that's why there's nothing happening here. But I do still read - on the metro to work in the morning and at home late in the evening to unwind. Sometimes I think about starting to write down my thoughts about the books I read, but it has not gotten any further than that. During my travels I will keep a travel diary - but not here in this blog. So please send my an e-mail if you would like to receive a link to the travel diary (my e-mail address is in the profile). Will wind down this coming weekend - which will be spent on a meditation retreat far out in the country side. Next week we have Thu-Fri off because of All Saints, and I will go to Dublin for two days and will have an Irish/Scottish friend with me back for two days. Will be great fun!! Fem prisvärda författare!

I veckans Bokfemma är det dags att välja kandidater för Bokfemmepriset... Jag har Beslutsångest stämplat i pannan, så jag har åtta namn på listan bredvid mig och antingen så väljer jag fem nu genom lottdragning eller så blir det aldrig en lista..!
Here goes!

Min första kandidat är Agatha Christie. En dam som lärde mig att uppskatta deckare i tonåren och vars skrivsätt jag beundrade och beundrar.

Min andra kandidat är Astrid Lindgren. För att hon gav mig (och alla andra barn) Pippi. För att jag kan prata Saltkråkan med mina holländska vänner. För att Idas sommarvisa genast får mig att tänka på Emil, griseknoen och småländsk sommar. Och för Nangijala!

Min tredje kandidat är Marianne Fredriksson. För alla hennes vackra böcker om livet och de som lever där. För Eva, Hanna, Johanna och alla andra fantastiska kvinnor hon porträtterat - och Simon.

Min fjärde kandidat är J.K. Rowling. Jag gillade Malins motivation och jag gillar att det finns barnböcker som även vuxna köar för mitt i natten! :)

Min femte kandidat är Åsa Larsson. En av Sveriges bästa deckarförfattare, om inte den bästa. Svart stig, Solstorm och Det blod som spillts. Samt ett väldigt bra Sommar program förra året.

Nu är det bäst att jag trycker på Publicera för annars så heter Åsa Hanne-Vibeke eller så heter Marianne Donna eller kanske J.K. heter P.D. Eller så kanske jag ångrar mig helt och väljer fem manliga författare.. Beslutsångest...!

Veckans Bokfemma är att lista fem böcker som jag ännu inte läst, men tänkt länge att jag skulle... Suck, ja, då blev det att ta en runda, två rundor, fem rundor runt böckerna i bokhyllan och inse hur många där är som tålmodigt väntar på att bli lästa. Tur att böcker inte kan tala! Därför har listan tagit lite tid, att välja ut fem tog lite tid. Men här är de!

Svensk historia (Alf Henriksson)

Den här boken har hängt med i många år och varje år så tänker jag att i år så ska jag läsa den. Kanske blir den läst nästa år...

Living History (Hillary Rodham Clinton)

Köpte den här boken för något år sedan. Vet egentligen inte alls varför. Men borde väl läsa den innan nästa presidentval i USA...

Kung Kalle av Kurreduttaön (Joakim Langer)

Blev fascinerad av tanken på att Pippis pappa funnits på riktigt. Pippi är och var min stora idol! Men inte har boken blivit läst än...

Snö (Orhan Pamuk)

Har försökt att läsa något av varje Nobelpristagare de senaste 20 åren. Har inte alltid lyckats läsa slut böckerna, men har alltid börjat. Förutom med Snö, för den står ännu orörd i bokhyllan. Och imorgon utses en ny pristagare!

Sen kunde jag inte välja vilken av de här två som skulle vara med, så då klippte jag ihop två bilder till en! :)

Två böcker jag länge tänkt läsa. Koranen därför att jag vill skapa mig en egen uppfattning om islams heliga bok, och Bibeln därför att jag borde läsa världens mest lästa bok från början till slut en enda gång.

Thought I would show you some more Malmö photos.

First, Malmö's oldest pharmacy - in the same building since 1898.

And then, some photos from an exhibition that I visited - the very famous Swedish painter Carl Larson's home Sundborn was partly taken down to Malmö. It was really well done, and I enjoyed it immensely (and yes, I did ask before taking the photos).

Lastly, some photos from a concert I went to the last night before going back home (and here I did not ask permission to photograph... :) ) Only Swedes will know the guy, and only if their eyesight is very good (cause photos are not that great), but still want to share some Swedish culture with you..! :)

Weekend has been lovely here with sunshine and autumnal colours, but I have been in bed with a seasonal cold/flu. But if weather stays ok I will try and take some photos next weekend.

Veckans bokfemma är den svåraste jag deltagit i hittills. Page-turners... Borde väl egentligen, som så många andra säkert, ha med Harry Potter, Stieg Larssons böcker, eller kanske Therese-böckerna. Men nej, jag gick ett varv bland bokhyllorna och valde ut de som jag kan minnas var böcker som var svåra att lägga ifrån sig (vilket jag i och för sig har svårt för med väldigt många böcker..). Så här är min lista!

Eleni (Nicolas Gage) En bok alla borde läsa någon gång i livet. En sons kärleksförklaring till sin moder! Jag har haft boken i många år, och läst den på både svenska och engelska.

The House By The Dvina (Eugenie Fraser) Ytterligare en non-fiction bok som jag sträckläste.

Momo (Signe Hasso) Tror inte det går att få tag på den här boken längre. Men den är så väldigt bra att den måste vara med på min lista.

Prioritaire (Iselin Hermann) Den som kan börja läsa den här boken och sen lämna den utan att ha läst slutet - den människan har jag inte träffat ännu! Detta är en bok jag delat med mig till många av mina vänner!

First they killed my father (Loung Ung) En ruskig bok, men en fantastisk bok på samma gång. Var första boken jag tänkte på när jag läste ämnet för veckans Bokfemma.

Men det var riktigt svårt den här gången - funderade först på att inte delta eftersom min lista över page-turners egentligen består av 50 böcker minst, eller kanske ännu fler..!!

Jo, jag har varit på semester i Skåne och kom tillbaks tidigare ikväll. Hade inte alls tänkt vara med på förra veckans Bokfemma... men hur ska jag kunna motstå att visa fem matlagningsfavoriter (bakning är väl inte direkt min grej). Visst borde Anna vara med även här, men eftersom en av Annas böcker var med i min lista för några veckor sedan har jag valt att inte ta med någon Anna-bok den här gången (även om jag använder flera av hennes böcker som inspiration). Men istället har jag valt följande fem:

Det glömda köket (Jens Linder). En helt underbar bok om allt det goda man kan skapa genom att torka, grava, rimma, röka, marinera och så vidare. Fantastisk!

Roast figs sugar snow (Diana Henry). En bok jag trillade över i en liten irländsk bokhandel en kulen dag. En bok som är rolig och värmande att läsa!

Rosendals trädgårdscafé (Monica Ahlberg). Därför att Rosendal är min absoluta favoritplats i Stockholm! Och för att recepten i boken så påminner mig om mina första besök i trädgårdscaféet där.

I kökslandet (Simon Irvine). En bok som gjorde mig nyfiken när jag hittade den i en bokhandel för något år sedan. En kul bok att läsa. Används regelbundet som inspiration.

Slutligen, en bok jag inte har (ännu) men en TV-serie (BBC) som jag äälskar. Hairy Bikers ride again är två sköna engelska killars version av hederlig mat från världens alla hörn. Hoppas den även kommer på dvd snart (som tidigare serie) så att jag kan köpa även den.

Om 24 timmar är det dags för nästa Bokfemma, men innan dess ska jag sova lite, arbeta, och äta!!

Bokfemma - chick lit

Jo, det ska väl erkännas... jag läser chick lits!! :) Allra mest när jag reser - de är väldigt bra reskompisar, men även då och då hemma. Mest läser jag chick lit på engelska, så min femma denna vecka presenteras med sina engelska titlar. Men det svåraste är att komma ihåg fem chick lit titlar- åtminstone för mig. Jag kan komma ihåg handlingen, men kan inte komma på titeln eller författaren.. Så jag har tänjt lite på reglerna den här veckan (också).

Watermelon/Vattenmelon (Marian Keyes) - vet att den redan är med på Malins lista, men den förtjänar att vara med och är mitt förstaval.
Men Thyme Out (Katie Fforbe) är en stark konkurrent till förstaplatsen - den här boken gillade jag!
Good in Bed (Jennifer Weiner) - ja, den är väldigt bra helt enkelt!
Charmed Lives (Susannah Bates) - en bok jag läste för några år sedan, och minns som en riktigt bra bok.
Uppdaterad! Naturligtvis ska Amanda's Wedding (Jenny Colgan) vara femte boken.

Men Mr Macgregor får stanna kvar som en outsider! :)

Nästa vecka är jag på semester i Skåne så då blir det ingen bloggfemma från mig. Men veckan därpå när jag kommit hem igen (fullastad med svenska böcker) så är jag tillbaka!

Ny bokfemma!

Vilket kul ämne i veckans Bokfemma! Nämn 5 böcker som säger något om dig själv!

Först och främst en bok som är så gammal (1969) att det inte finns en bild att hitta på nätet (och jag är för lat för att fotografera den). Men boken som följt mig genom livet, med ett ämne som ligger mig så väldigt varmt om hjärtat: Terrierboken av Barbro Eklund

Nästa bok, eller mer korrekt, nästa författare är Dalai Lama. Lycka är en av hans böcker som ständigt finns i min närhet.

Orkidéer! En hobby jag haft i mer än tio år nu. Familjen Rittershausen är en av orkidévärldens stora auktoriteter. På årets Chelsea Flower Show i maj köpte jag tre orkidéer av dem - en blommar fortfarande och de andra två har just nya knoppar!

Reser gör jag gärna! Äter gör jag minst lika gärna! Så när jag planerar årets vinterresa (en månads backpacking i Vietnam, Laos och Kambodja) så är det böcker som Ant Egg Soup jag läser istället för vanliga resguider. Är just nu halvvägs igenom boken, och den är helt underbar!

Mat ja, en av mina nyare kokböcker är Det glömda köket. En bok jag är glad att jag hittade - och köpte!

Jag kan inte lämna Annas örtagård utanför listan - den har varit en favoritbok som jag läser i ofta, ända sen jag hittade den en gång för länge, länge sen.

Så det blev fem bilder - sex böcker. Listan hade kunnat göras än längre, om jag skulle lagt till historieböcker, IT-böcker, språkböcker, vinböcker, whiskyböcker, reseguider... Tur för er att det heter Bokfemma!! :) Troligt är också att om jag gjorde listan imorgon så skulle den kanske se annorlunda ut. Men så är det!

Bokfemman - debuten

Yep, this will be a post in Swedish - about books.

Jag hittade Bokfemman förra veckan men hann då inte vara med. Eftersom jag läser väldigt mycket böcker, alla sorters böcker, så gillar jag idén med Bokfemman. Veckans Bokfemma är svensk litteratur, och det var riktigt svårt att bara plocka ut fem författare! Men här kommer mina favoriter:
Theodor Kallifatides
Svenska språket i hans böcker är så gudomligt vacker. Som en sång! Speciellt gillar jag Ett nytt land utanför mitt fönster och En kvinna att älska. Jag ser fram emot hans nya bok Mödrar och söner som kommer ut nästa månad!
Bengt Ohlsson
Gregorius. En väldigt bra bok.
Torbjörn Flygt
Underdog. En bok som fastnade.
Karin Brunk Holmqvist
Potensgivarna. Rapsbaggarna. Villa Bonita. Mysiga böcker som man blir glad av att läsa!
Marianne Fredriksson
Kanske den bästa på min lista! Evas bok. Anna, Hanna och Johanna. Skilda verkligheter. Och många fler.

Sen finns förstås Kerstin Ekman, Vilhelm Moberg, Kay Pollack, Swedenmark/Wennström, och några till. Men dem sparar jag till nästa gång det blir svenska författare i Bokfemman! :)

Sweet delights

A few weeks ago I received my Blogging By Mail parcel. It came from Texas, from Marye at Baking Delights.

I was delighted to find Marye's custom blended coffee - I have never tasted freshly grounded coffee before, so this will be a true treat.

The jar with chipotle granules smells divine, and have already been put to good use! Love the smokiness and the heat! So there is no surprise that a chocolate with chipotle did not last long! :) The magazine that Marye has included has lots of interesting recipes that I will try to make good use of. Unfortunately some other things that Marye had included (tea and soap) were too damaged by the transport for me to be able to enjoy them, which was a pity but "that's life"! Heartfelt thanks Marye for this very thoughtful parcel!

Five months...

It is five months to Christmas Eve today! Cruel I know... But that also means that it is five months left until I am here again:

will not do this climb again this year, I think once is definitely enough!

But it is "only" 133 days until I leave!! :)

And, yes I am counting the days!!

A zoo with a difference

I, like most adults, am normally not a great fan of zoological parks. But Dunnells on Jersey is a zoo with a difference. I remember watching documentaries about the monkeys at Dunnells, so even though I am not a fan of zoos generally, I really wanted to see the monkeys and the monkey enclosures in real life. So when I had the chance to spend a day on Jersey the zoo was a must. Here are some of the great animals I encountered!

Not only did I eat well when I was in Bretagne, but I brought some souvenirs with me back home. Forgot to take the photo immediately so the Saint Nectaire is already a distant memory! But here's what's still there!

Paté breton with chestnuts; rillettes (a kind of pate) one with red mullet (and wild fennel) and one with scallops (and crispy seaweed); marinated salicorne; beurre au sel fumé (butter with smoked salt); two kinds of dried seaweed (nori and wakamé); croutons with nori; spring honey; and edible lavender and also a bunch of fresh lavender from Jersey (Channel Islands - yes, I was there too)

I have found a piece of heaven on earth!

Came back yesterday from a lovely week in beautiful Bretagne. It rained 6 out of 7 days... but that's summer holidays for you! :) At least I got to test the new rucksack before I leave for Vietnam and Laos later this year.

So enough said, lets post some holiday snaps! First I went to Mont St Michel, because I had heard so much about it. Beautiful, yes, but a bit too touristy for my liking. Anyway, voilà:

This year's challenge - that is what my two auriculas will be! I have never owned one before, and have long been fascinated by them. Ideally they should live in an alpine garden, but my experiment will take place on my back balcony, in a basket full of rocks and stones. Will I succeed? Maybe, maybe not. Time will tell. But I will enjoy every day I have these pretty flowers greeting me in the morning!

Went to Chelsea Flower Show last weekend. It is such a immense pleasure to walk around all these plants. Yes, there are lots and lots of people too, but the flowers are worth it! The colours! The fragrance! The creativity! Above are photos from some of the show gardens.

I am just back from a fantastic weekend in London - Chelsea Flower Show and Kew Gardens. Weather was miserable (especially at Kew) but it was magical anyway.
Photos will arrive soon..! :)
Anyway, was at the coast last weekend (the holiday weekends are many this month!) and here are some photos that I took there. First the kites - on land and on sea!

Kites are called drake (dragon) in Swedish - hence the title.

I spent hours and hours walking along the beach - it goes on for miles and miles.
And then I spent the evenings at the promenade restos and in the comfy chairs in my rented apartment (6th floor with sea view). This photo is taken in the apartment:

The country at the horizon is Denmark with the Helsingborg-Helsingör ferry to the left. Quite a haze that day, unfortunately.

I was wrong! Amongst all the photos I took, I forgot about this pearl - Banteay Srei.

Thought to have been created by women due to the very fine artistic details on the buildings. Spent parts of Christmas Eve here, and had a delicious lunch at a roadside café.

This is why I can't let go of this journey; so much happened, so many visual and emotional memories. So I think this is the last of the photos from Cambodia and Thailand - but maybe I should learn never to say never... :)

It's almost 3 months now since I came home from Cambodia and Thailand, and you have during this time got to see a few out of the thousand photos I took. Today when it's been grey, cold and miserable is the perfect day to end with some photos from the beautiful garden of Sukhothai. And once I have recharged the batteries (mine and the camera's) I will be trying to catch spring through the lens. But only once the sun is back!

Then it is time to plan the holidays for the summer and winter. Maybe India? Or Vietnam? Most probably France. Maybe Greece? Definitely Chelsea Flower Show and maybe Kew Gardens in May. So be patient..! :)

The job I am going to is probably not even half as interesting, but hopefully it is with a better functioning group. I have 5 weeks transfer time (the good thing working at a large organisation is that you can move job without changing your main employer), but I can honestly say that after having done the first week that this will be sheer hell! This is how I feel right now:

The day today started with a dental appointment, and it being Monday in week 2 of 5, I could have been in better spirit...

So imagine the joy that I felt when I opened the door this morning to find that the postwoman had left a HUGE parcel outside my door. It was my Blogging by Mail parcel and it was from Stephanie at the Happy Sorceress. Stephanie is the organiser of 2 BBMs in a row - and has been amazing in organising this as well as being a very busy blogger (and mum, wife, dog owner, etc etc). Girl power!! :)

So today at work has absolutely dragged on, since I did not have time to open the parcel this morning but had to wait until this evening. I attacked the parcel the minute I was through the door (patience, what patience??) WOW! To all other superlatives that can be said about Stephanie please add kind, warm and generous!! Enough said, here are pictures of what I got!

Included in the parcel was also a cd with Christmas songs from the 40s and 50s - with the lovely scratchy sound from a record player needle - which are all going onto my mp3 right now. This cd will be treasured indeed!! And a lovely note. Heartfelt thanks to Stephanie and family!

A laugh a day...

This is an absolutely superb little film. A little bit slow the first minute or two, but after that you will laugh your socks off!!

Apart from that there will be no more published here today. Am preparing myself for telling The Boss tomorrow that I have found a job at another department and will leave mid Feb. He is not known for having the most placid of tempers, so will have to prepare my words carefully. But then again, TGIF! :)

But more photos will arrive here over the weekend, and one or two words too!!

But if this is paradise... be glad that we have not been good!! This is Wat Ronkhun, a thai temple showing paradise. And in good old Las Vegas style the toilets are all "solid gold" (well, gold leaf probably) to which the queues are loooong! Pics not that great because the temple is just to white and shiny... :)

Rail line market

Visited this little market just outside Bangkok. The market takes place along and on the rail lines, but has to take short pauses each time the train arrives. I have taken the photos from the end station platform where the train arrives, lets off passengers, and then returns the same way. I wish I could had shown more photos from along the market, but it was unfortunately too dark there so the photos have not turned out ok. But a fantastic little market!

I am back now! Well, I have been back for a week now, but head is still buzzing so it is hard to put words to the feelings yet. It was a magic trip! Especially Cambodia! What a country! The kindest of people! Go there!! And if you want the best ever guide - contact me and I will send you details!

Dreaming of Christmas..!

In just 5 days time I will have arrived to the first destination on my SE Asia holiday - Phitsanoluk. The though of heat and fantastic Thai food warms the spirit a grey and miserable day like today!

Another ten days later and I will be crossing the border to Laos, and spend a few days in Vientiane.

But then, at Christmas, comes the coup de coeur - Siem Reap and the temple areas. That will be one very special Christmas Eve and Christmas Eve.

The attached photo is not mine - since I have not been there yet, but are borrowed from unknowing friends in cyber space!

And finally, yes there is a new Blogging-By-Mail on the go, and I have shipped a parcel over the waters (not mentioning which waters..). Hopefully there will be a parcel waiting for me when I come back!

Long time...

It is strange how quickly time flies... or not as the case maybe at other times. Anyway, have been really been neglecting my blog for the last couple of months. Reasons? Well, have been overloaded with work since beginning of September, and then my mum has been ill. But mum is better now, and job well that is getting better too!

Especially since I will be leaving on my life's holiday (so far) in about two weeks time! A month in South east Asia; Northern Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. It's going to be so fun!!

Will try to post a bit before the departure, but then there will be another blog pause of about a month. But then there will be photos, and recipes, and photos!!

Life has become a bit dreich here after the best autumn for a long time. But soon the warmth and the light will be back! :)

Wow! Was I surprised when there was a note for me about (another) parcel to pickup from the post? Yes, I was. But that is nothing compared to the surprise when I see that it is from my blog friend Jenn in South Korea! A big box full of goodies! There was a heavenly smell when I opened it! Have only just got time to post some photos here now - then I must hide the box. I have friends coming for dinner - and I want to keep the goodies to me, me, me!! (Have I been single for too long?) Thank you so much Jenn! What a fantastic surprise! Will write more about this as soon I have started tasting it all! Maybe the guests will leave early so I can start to munch already tonight (if not I will have to share it with them..). Anyway here are the pictures!

Matnörd, moi? Mais non!

Känns som om jag lurats, därför att även om mina vänner ofta talar om mig som personen med en väldig massa onödigt vetande så känns utnämningen Månadens matnörd som jag fått av Matälskaren lite tokig. Bara för att jag kände igen Len Fisher. Det gjorde jag egentligen bara därför att jag dricker alldeles för mycket te och därmed under mina år i Skottland blev väl insatt i Konsten att doppa kex i te. Så för mig var inte frågan så svår. Men vilken ära att bli utnämnd som månadens matnörd av Lisa! Kan avslöja en liten hemlighet... jag var på Matkaravan 2003 och har sedan dess följt Lisas bloggande. Så jag är djupt hedrad över utnämningen! Känner också att jag nu måste börja blogga lite oftare, och kanske även börja skriva lite om mat. Men inte idag. Chutneykok pågår så jag måste tillbaka till köket! Kanske blir det dagen till ära någon ny liten ingrediens tillsatt till chutneyn - vi matnördar är ju nyfikna av oss!!

Stephanie at the Happy Sorceress has been brave enough to spark life in Blogging By Mail (5th edition). Having participated in the last 3, I signed up as soon as I found out about this one. So a parcel will soon be leaving Gigha's kitchen and travel to a happy blogger. And hopefully I will receive a parcel from another blogger. Will keep you updated!
